Laura’s new album ACHIN’ and SHAKIN’ will be released on April 13, 2010!
Ian in Your Ear already brought you ex-Legally Blonde (on Broadway) star Laura Bell Bundy’s first video as a country artist, “Giddy On Up.”
So, we were pleasantly surprised when the newest Nashville crooner on the block dropped by our office on February 5 to not only discuss her upcoming debut album, Achin’ and Shakin’ (due out this spring) but also to open about her childhood pals Britney Spears, Natalie Portman and Macaulay Culkin (including some near-run ins with Michael Jackson!).
Get all the goss right from her mouth by checking out the vid below!
Legends Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire made it in country music and then headed north to Broadway. New artist Laura Bell Bundy followed that same path — but in reverse. Laura Bell – whose debut major-label country CD, Achin’ & Shakin’ comes out this spring, first gained fans as the star of some well-known Broadway shows. She originated the lead role of Elle Woods in the Broadway musical, “Legally Blonde” (for which she received a Tony Award nomination). She also originated the role of Amber Von Tussle in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, “Hairspray,” and played Glinda in the musical, ”Wicked.”
But even with these accomplishments, this Kentucky-born singer/songwriter always had her eye on the prize — to make a country record. At age 18, she moved to New York City and formed a country duo with roommate Amber Rhodes. The two played in various clubs around the Big Apple.
“In the meantime, I got ‘Hairspray’ and ‘Wicked,’ and honestly, that’s how I supported myself,” says Laura Bell. “It wasn’t until I was on the Broadway radar that Nashville noticed me. Isn’t that ironic? My showcase was my show, in some ways.”
Laura Bell – a.k.a. “LBB” — displays the same spunk, sass and charming sense of humor as Dolly (one of her heroes) in her debut single, “Giddy On Up.” She recently stopped by the GAC studio to introduce herself — so we thought we’d have a little fun and ask her to tell us some random facts about herself. We only asked for five, but as you’ll see, she gave us that and so much more! Click below to watch:
